Round Top - A Texan Road Trip (part 1)

Have you heard of Round Top before ? If not, you are in for a treat, this is a tiny town (pop. 90) loaded with enchanted adventures and all with just in a few blocks of each other. So prepare your cooler and cameras and make sure to have comfortable shoes...you will love this little town!!!
Round top is well know for it Antique shows and pies. But what it makes Round Top special for me is :

1. The Round Top Festival Institute (pictures above)
The historic structures alone are worth the trip, the Institute beautiful grounds are usually open, so a visit on the less hotter months are a must.

2. The Family library
A wonderful stop, the library will enchanted any children or adult in that matter.

3.Henkel Square Market
This is a place to people watching, enjoy some coffee and delicious pies. Also you can admire lovely historic structures.

4. Shakespeare at Winedale
The plays are performance in hay barn made to resemble a Elizabethan theatre. The performances are excellent... 

There are so much more to this little town, bluebonnets, layback, perfect little houses, antiques...

Worth Our Time

      I want to share with you about the 3 DVDs that we have been watching over and over . They are fun to watch and also full of useful information. I also add a You Tube link, make sure to check out,is worth! 

                                   

1. Making Herbs Simple by Shoshanna-Vol.1 . I have learn so much from this DVD !Shoshanna is so enthusiastic and funny.  From her DVD I specially love the up close detail of the wild herbs, the explanation on what to do with those herbs and the many different ways to prepare it. I was so excited to know that Yarrow is still been use for remedies and that Plantain is so easy to find around my neighborhood. Excellent for beginners.
2. Homestead Blessings -The Art of Herbs . This DVD  is so fun ,you get a tour of their herb garden ( always a plus for me since I love gardens ) and learn  many fun ways to use herbs. I love learning about Comfrey and it uses for the garden, about vinegars,teas,drying herbs...Excellent for beginners.
3. Homesteading for Beginners- Vol.1.  This DVD is so fun to watch, we make popcorn and enjoy seen this young family planting,harvesting and enjoying their farm. I love the family working together and seen how the kids are very involve in all that they do. I specially like the care and processing  of the chickens. This is for beginners too. Aldo fun you will learn a lot from it and your family will be inspired !

JOYS OF SEPTEMBER

I been cleaning my garden to get ready for some planting this fall, it has been a never ending kind of job. Thanks to me, since I neglected it all summer long.Now I have unwanted grass all over my garden, some of my favorite perennials didn't survive,and wasps built nests all over the garden...

Well I don't know if I will be able to ever have my garden completely back...

But I most say that  all this work still doesn't stop me from enjoying the outside .

My garden still have a  beauty ,and somehow brings a sweet quietness to my heart

  So lately here is what we been doing in the garden....

playing in the outside, she was  to help me  to water the garden...

...finding the most beautiful insects...

I never seen a lady bug like this one, it has a clear shell around it's head and body.

This dragonfly is so big and the colors so bright...

...and the most cute creatures...

This little rabbit loves to eat our unwanted grass

(Rabbit + veggie garden...sounds like a familiar story)

I was at GOODWILL one day ,and look what I found ,this glass cage,now is used to observer little creatures from our garden, we will keep this little tree frog for a day

Oh, and  enjoying the beautiful September sundown

So do you have plans for your fall garden ?

I am planning to plant some tomatoes, lettuce, snap peas,carrots,squash, onions and garlic.

I will also will try to plant some seed that I still have from spring ,like corn, and green beans-I don't know if will work since the weather is getting cooler and not hot .

For my flower garden I will be planting again

poppies(this time the poppy oriental), larkspur and johnny jump up, I also want to add some Bishops-Flower and more Brazilian verbenas.If you want to add any of those flowers to your garden, this is the time to do it from seeds.

Just sharing...

Just about 2 weeks ago I was checking one of my favorites singer Fernando Ortega, this man have the most beautiful and inspirational music, mostly written by him. To my surprise he was having a concert here for free,I was so excited!!!
 He is so gifted and he glorifies our Lord with all his beautiful songs...his music is very peaceful ,I usually play his CD for my child at night and I usually like to play it before I read my Bible.
