Round Top - A Texan Road Trip (Part 2)

Here is one of our favorite stop in Round Top, The Family Library is a relax cool stop, specially if you are visiting R.T. in the summer months.
The gothic building, which have a impressive survival story, was a old Lutheran church in 1925.
I also love the surrounding gardens with some majestic old oaks and The Historical Rummel house.

Round Top - A Texan Road Trip (part 1)

Have you heard of Round Top before ? If not, you are in for a treat, this is a tiny town (pop. 90) loaded with enchanted adventures and all with just in a few blocks of each other. So prepare your cooler and cameras and make sure to have comfortable shoes...you will love this little town!!!
Round top is well know for it Antique shows and pies. But what it makes Round Top special for me is :

1. The Round Top Festival Institute (pictures above)
The historic structures alone are worth the trip, the Institute beautiful grounds are usually open, so a visit on the less hotter months are a must.

2. The Family library
A wonderful stop, the library will enchanted any children or adult in that matter.

3.Henkel Square Market
This is a place to people watching, enjoy some coffee and delicious pies. Also you can admire lovely historic structures.

4. Shakespeare at Winedale
The plays are performance in hay barn made to resemble a Elizabethan theatre. The performances are excellent... 

There are so much more to this little town, bluebonnets, layback, perfect little houses, antiques...

Wee Pincushions tutorial

I don't know why but my mind is always thinking and rethink for uses for the most ridiculous objects.

Lately has been the insert caps for our non-dairy coffee creamer. It looks just like a ring, with a perfect little flat top .

Every time I would pull one of the inserts, the idea to make a tiny ring pincushion would pop up.

Here is what you will need:

-Insert cap, look like a little ring(look on above picture)

-Fabric 

-Thread

-Needle

-Scissors

-Stuffing or a cotton ball

 

 

First cut you fabric twice the size of the circumference of the cap. My cap are just about one inch long, so your fabric will be 2 inches longer, but to make it easier I just made a template from of one of my vitamins cap.

After making your templates, you will gather it, folding the edging as you go so it won't fray.

 

 

As you get to the end don't gather yet, now is the time to fit the stuffing in as you fit the stuffing gather a little bit.  Start to fit the fabric on the top of the ring, start to gather the fabric after placing it in the top of the ring (like the picture below). Add more stuff if needed.

 Knot it where the ring and the top meet.

 

 

That is it. I hope it is easy to understand.

 

 

I made the little ladybug pincushion for my daughter.

Don't you think that would be so fun to make a wee bunny and a wee mouse too. Well maybe one day, after I open another coffee creamer. Who knows.

 

 

My daughter, who always have a hand sewn project at hand, have been testing for the usability of those tiny cushions, and I think I got a five star from her.

A Wild Flower Hunt

"Every year is the same, when Spring is drawing near .

I must leave, I must go, for a wild flower hunt.

It is like a fever. A wild flower fever."

 The best place to go around here, for a wild flower hunt,  is Chappell Hill,

a very quaint little town that even Anne of Green Gables would feel right at home, with a museum, historic sites and antiques.

Bring a friend, camera, picnic basket - or just stop at one of the local restaurants.

 

 Go a little farther to visit one of the two Lavender farms, to have ice cream on the Blue Bell creamery or even better visit the Rose Emporium.

On our trip, we decided to stop in on one of the local restaurant for Blue Bell ice cream. We visited my favorite antique store and drove to a Lavender farm (at this time of the year the lavenders do not show well, but the place is lovely, with lots of lavender goods, and the drive is pretty scenic).
